Since 2009, we have been working with the shanty town of Guararí, providing support through workshops in sewing, crafts and baking. We have also taught courses on self esteem, setting limits, assertive communication and discipuling. With the help of volunteers we have been able to do other activities such as vacation bible school, english classes and recreational activities.
We have a partnership with Teen Smart which provides online health-promoting services. These tools are directed at preventing and/or reducing six common risky behaviors that contribute to 75% of the costs of illness and death among adolescents and young adults in Latin America and the United States. These behaviors are:
- Self inflicted or accidental injuries (accidents, suicide, bullying and violence)
- Tobacco use
- Alcohol and drug use
- Risky sexual behaviors (RSB) that often lead to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and adolescent pregnancy
- Lack of physical exercise
- Poor nutritional habits
